General information

RINE aims to find ways in which the structural and social arrangements of an organization can best support the innovation practice of its members. The project aims to remove unnecessary conflicts between the structures  of innovation management and the actual practice of organizational actors, and thus increase the effectiveness of managerial policies. The projct is particuarly focused on the context of service innovation. RINE examines organizational actors in various roles and organizational levels.

The research questions of the project are the following:

1) How do innovation and transformation (change) processes happen in the level of everyday practice and interaction.

2) How can existing and novel structures best support service innovation practice? How to align existing and novel practices?

3) How could decision making practices be more accepting towards the ambiguous nature of innovation practice?

4) What are the central challenges and success factors (social and structural) in supporting innovation practice and transformation (change) processes?

5) How does service innovation practice differ from product innovation? What are the challenges in creating linkages between technology developers and service developers?

6) How are change process and ideas legitimized in organizations?

RINE project is funded by Future Industrial Services Program of FIMECC (Finnish Metals and Engineering Competence Cluster). The industrial partners of the project are Ahlstrom Oyj, Rautaruukki Oyj and Yleisradio Oy. Main research partners include Stanford University and the International Design Business Management (IDBM) program.
