General information

Dr. Pekka Berg is Research Director of BIT Research Centre of Helsinki University of Technology and founder and also Director of the Innovation Management Institute.

Dr. Berg has been also Senior Research Scientist at Structural Engineering of Tampere University of Technology 1993-2000, Visiting Researcher at Faculty of Economic and Social Studies of The University of Manchester 1995-1996 and Visiting Fellow at Stanford Learning Laboratory of Stanford University 2001.

Research interest

Dr. Berg´s research interests cover the examination of innovative operations and maturity methods at the following levels: the mechanisms of the national innovation systems, national research, development and technology programs and organizational innovation and R&D operation. The methods developed by Dr. Berg have been piloted in 15 national research and technology programs, which have had a total volume of about Euro 500 million. Information about approximately 400 enterprises in Finland and abroad has been collected on the subject of improving the innovation activities of firms. On corporate level new methods have been piloted in about 50 enterprises.

Currently, his main area of interest is to integrate knowledge management and learning to the all levels of innovation operations. These are studied through new business models, networking, globalisation and information technology.

Professional background

Dr. Berg is member of assessment group of Improvement of the Quality and Effectiveness of Education and Learning 2000-2006 programme of European Union Social Fund, which has a total volume of Euro 300 million.

Dr. Berg has also currently been teaching and conducting research with Executive MBA, in the Tampere University of Technology and Advanced Project Management course in the Helsinki University of Technology.

Pekka Berg holds a Ph.D. in innovation management from Tampere University of Technology.
